Bust out your wallets, everyone! The Library's annual Alumni Weekend Book Sale is this week!

Hardcovers are $1 each, and paperbacks are 2 for $1. We will also have records for sale, which are $0.50 apiece, or 3 for $1. We can only accept cash or check (no debit or credit cards), so make sure you come prepared!

New bike rack!

In case you hadn't noticed yet, the library now has a bike rack! No longer will the bike riders of BSC be forced to plop their bikes down in the bushes, sprawl them in front of the book drop, or god forbid walk all the way from the bike rack by the Norton Circle! If you ride a bike, please take advantage of this wonderful addition to our library!

Library Piloting Later Hours for Fall Term

You asked for it, you got it! The library got a lot of great suggestions last semester from our student survey, one of which was quite popular: later hours for the library! Because of the overwhelming number of requests, we have decided to pilot later hours for the fall term:

Mon-Wed: 8am-1am
Thurs: 8am-midnight
Fri: 8am-5pm
Sat: 9am-5pm
Sun: 2pm-midnight

Please keep in mind that this is not necessarily a permanent change. We will collect data during the semester and evaluate library usage for the extended hours. If we see that people are using the library during the extended hours, we'll strongly consider making this a permanent change for future terms!

Welcome new students!

To our incoming first-years and transfer students, welcome to the Hilltop! We hope you've had a productive and informative Orientation so far. As part of the get-to-know-BSC weekend, the library is hosting several information sessions designed to help you get acquainted with what we offer. This is tagged as a Required Event in your Orientation packet, so make sure you're there! The sessions are scheduled according to your Orientation color groups as follows:

11am: Red, Blue, Pink, and Brown groups
1pm: Black, Gold, Silver, and Green groups
2pm: Orange, Teal, Purple, and Yellow groups

Make sure you join your Orientation leaders at the library during your scheduled time!

We have also put together the new students' top 10 Frequently Asked Questions. Reading through it will likely answer most of your questions, and if it doesn't, we are available! Call the Circulation Desk (226-4740), check out our website, email us (libref@bsc.edu), or just drop by! We're here to help you out, make sure you take advantage of it!

Congratulations to Kevin Lurey, 2104 Library Art Purchase Award Winner!

The recipient of this year's BSC Library Art Purchase Award is Kevin Lurey, who graduated from Birmingham-Southern this spring. His untitled piece was acquired by the BSC library in May and will be displayed on the ground floor of the building.
Kevin Lurey, Untitled

The Art Purchase Award is funded through the library's used book sales, which enable us to purchase at least one outstanding piece of art from the Juried Student Art Exhibition each year.  Wander down to the ground floor next time you're in the library, to enjoy the work of some of Birmingham-Southern's talented artists... and check out the used books for sale in the lobby, if you'd like to contribute to making the library a more beautiful and interesting space!
