This Friday marks the opening of the art exhibition "Simulacrumedia" by Professor Kevin Shook. The opening reception will last from 6-8pm on Feb. 7 in the Durbin Gallery, with a lecture by the artist to be presented on Feb. 18.
In the artist's words, "Simulacrumedia is an installation on the subject of media and its effects on social communication and how we perceive reality. The work explores the process of interpreting the world within a visual framework. This specific process stems from the ritual interaction society has with media: smartphone, laptop, newspaper, or billboard. This interaction creates a hyperreality that connects, yet distances, individuals from one another."
The exhibition will be on display through Feb. 27, and is free and open to the public. Normal gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30-4:45.
